The UK Immigrant Investor Program also known as Tier 1 is a Points Based System, and should be read with paragraphs 245E to 245EF of the Immigration Rules.
The three-tiered system applies to the main applicant and all immediate family members, including spouse and children under the age of 18.
Initially, an investor visa is granted for three years and four months which can then be extended for another two years, by providing evidence that an investment of at least £ 2 million was made in the UK. Work, study and business activity is permitted. The length of time required to qualify for permanent residence depends on the amount of investment, as follows
Full Investment: £2 million
Stay For Settlement (ILR): 5 years
Full Investment: £5 million
Stay For Settlement (ILR): 3 years
Full Investment: £10 million
Stay For Settlement (ILR): 2 years
*these options were introduced as fast track methods in 2011, please note, with these methods only the main applicant will be fast tracked, all remaining family members will still have to wait the full 5 year term in UK.
There is no requirement to demonstrate English language ability.
Once you have lived in the UK for five or more years, you may be eligible to apply for UK Citizenship providing you meet the residency requirements and can show they have made the UK their home for at least 50% of their time (6 months per year)
To qualify for citizenship, each applicant must meet strict residency requirements. A maximum of 450 days absence from the UK is allowed during the five year period, including no more than 90 days absence in the last year preceding citizenship application.
